Kaitlin Mary Bennett is a sweet 12-year-old girl with GRIN1. Kaitlin lives in Denver, Colorado with her mom Maureen, dad Kevin and older sister Kylie. After nine years on an incredible journey, searching for answers on what made Kaitlin uniquely special – and why – including visits with developmental specialists, neurologists, geneticists, orthopedics, epilepsy specialists, ophthalmologists etc., and the answer was found in Kaitlin’s rare GRIN1 genetic mutation, discovered through the Whole Exome Sequencing genetic test. It was this discovery, at her age of 10 that opened the door to an amazing GRIN community and a level of support and friendship we had never had. Kaitlin is thriving in sixth grade. While she is challenged in many ways with intellectual disability, epilepsy, CVI and lack of speech, she has many things that make her happy. She loves to swing, jump, swim, listen to music, and take bike rides and car trips. Kaitlin has so much love to give and is our joy, our family’s greatest blessing!
